so continuing from pt. 2...
matt (the casting director) started to call out the teams that were chosen to stay -- buttttt it sounded like he was doing roll call because he was calling the teams in order, so everyone was looking at each other and mumbling, "is this right? isn't he calling roll?" matt himself was puzzled and checked the papers to make sure he was right.
and he was.
sonia and i were called 3rd, just like roll call. my heart dropped for like 3 seconds because i thought we were called to go home. nope :) we were among the 5 teams chosen to go to the next round!
"you guys are fun and have this great dynamic energy. use that and give it your all during the mockup game!"
so while waiting for our turn to record the mock game (all in this tiny tinnyyyyy room with nothing but a tripod and a FLIP camera), we filled out a questionnaire about each other, as well as what we would do with 100/1,000/10,000/1,000,000 dollars.
we ended up going 2nd to last at around 10pm. we were so hungry that we didn't care whether we got the thing or not. we just wanted to EATTT.
kim, the other casting director, called us into the room and said, "okay, since you guys are short, i'm going to have to adjust the camera accordingly, so just run in, be energetic and excited, and introduce yourselves! i'm not going to record this."
wanting to prove ourselves as worthy, i was determined to go buckwild......
... i guess i was too energetic.
ran in jumping and yelling, "WHOO!! SECRET FORTUNE!! YEAHHH!!" ..... and BAM. ran into the wall. LOLLLL now she HAS to remember us.
kim, sonia, and i laughed so hard for about a good 3 minutes, while the last team ("legally blonde" wannabes) was watching us from the hallway. "why didn't i record this?!?! i would've put it up on youtube in an instant!!!"
anyway, onto the game.
we got the question: Who won the most raspberry awards for the worst acting?
Ben Affleck
Lindsey Lohan
Madonna
Eddie Murphy
after much discussion and "really?? i think it's--"'s, we eliminated Eddie Murphy first, Ben Affleck second, and Lindsey Lohan 3rd, making our answer Madonna.
in the end, fast-forward to the reveal of our $$ prize.....
we won $400,000!! Madonna was the right answer, followed by Eddie, Lindsey, and Ben last.
all in all, kim told us how she loved our energy and that we were hilarious.
we left the building at 10:15 pm, hungry as hell, yet proud that we were such a great team and that the casting directors seemed to like us.
the next step?
just wait for the call.
hopefully out of the 20-something teams chosen total, we will be picked!
and even if we don't, we have a high chance of getting on the show for one of the episodes IF cbs ends up passing the pilot.
we shall see what i will be doing on july 23rd. :)

secret fortune pt. 2
those of you who saw my facebook mobile uploads 2 days ago should have a general idea of what happened since my last post.
so let me start from the beginning.
it was 12:30 pm.
i was getting jittery about the audition that was to happen in 4.5 hours. i googled "audition process for game shows" just to get the gist of what we were about to face.
basically, if it's a trivia game show you're auditioning for, you need to study trivia for the audition.
great. i suck at trivia.
i frantically searched and had 20394 tabs open on my browser for different trivia questions/information. i even dl-ed a trivia app on my phone. call me oba, i don't care.
it was 4:25 pm.
sonia and i drove into the lot of CBS, having been previously informed that the security guard would check our ID and make sure we're on the guest list before letting us pass through.
after 10 minutes of trying to figure where we were allowed to park (each space was designated for a specific person), we signed in at the front desk and sat down in the waiting room while watching what seemed to be a live taping of "dr. phil" going on somewhere in the building. we were the first ones to arrive. soon after, a white couple came in and we mingled with them.
me: so how did you find out about this show? craigslist?
them: we auditioned for "the newlywed game" 2 years ago and we were on file for future contacts!
fast forward to 5:15-ish. there were about 20-something other teams in line with us -- none of which were asian, none of which were young and hip like us (lol jk about the hip part). i think the next youngest pair was 27 and they looked/dressed like they just stepped out of the movie "legally blonde."
anyway, after filling out a joint application and taking pictures (one normal, one funny), we were led upstairs to a hallway with tiny empty rooms and one conference room by one of the casting directors. [note to remember: every time we moved from one location to another, he did roll-call and we were always called 3rd, after brian&heather and stacey&alyssa.]
there, we were given 15 trivia questions to answer together. the rules were -- answer it together; if both of us agree on one answer, just circle that answer. if we disagree and choose different answers, circle both and write the initials next to the answer choices.
example:
Which country's flag has the least amount of stars?
Brazil
China
United States
[some random country i've never heard of]
(earlier that day, i was on tumblr and someone had a post up with different country flags. thank you tumblr.)
after the questions, the teams were split into 3 groups. we were in the first. the casting director (matt) had each of the teams stand up, introduce themselves with a lot of energy and personality, and describe what they would do with a million dollars -- first, what they NEED the money for, and then what they WANT it for. let's just say that the group interview became a freaking group therapy sesh, where all of our energies and moods were dampened by each other's morbid life problems.
sonia and i went 3rd (by order) and we both pretty much explained why we would give a lot of our money to our parents. because we were limited on time, matt kept trying to rush us, not understanding that what he THINKS we want (supporting our parents) is really what we NEED. i almostttt got into an argument with him. ha. "i don't think you understand -- this is korean culture..." (reminds me of the time i argued with the crazy evangelists on campus, but i didn't go crez this time.)
after hearing everyone else's needs ("i don't have medical insurance" "i'm in 202348348-dollar debt" "we have a child but we live in a one-bedroom"), i was pretty sure we were gonna get cut. we're short. we look like we're 15. we're asian. others seem like they need this more than we do (at least i assumed that's what matt was thinking).
the 3 groups were finally done with group interviews. this was at around 8:45. at this point, sonia and i were freaking hungry. good thing i brought some veggie chips with me.
sonia: i don't care if we make it anymore. i just wanna get out of here and eat.
ok they told us in the email that the audition could take up to 4 hours, but that it most likely wouldn't take that long. ....it was nearing 4 hours. but at 9-ish, after matt came back from talking to kim, the female casting director, he gathered us together in the tiny conference room with a pile of applications in his hands, ready to call out the names of teams that were to advance.
thisisgettingtoolong. to be continued.

*this game is played by eliminating answers to get to your answer choice. look this gameshow up on youtube and see how it's played if you're curious.

secret fortune
here, i will let you in on a secret.
i'm assuming not a lot of ppl read this anymore. comment on this post, so i know which one of you now know. (and please don't tell other ppl until i say it's ok. i don't want it to be a big deal.... or even just... a small deal. hahaha)
so ever since i was in middle school, i made a goal to be on some kind of tv show.
the summer going into freshman year, i actually applied for a MAKEOVER show called "how do i look?" with the explanation similar to, "i went to an all-girls catholic high school for 7 years and am finally going to a co-ed public university. i've been wearing uniforms for those 7 years and rarely went shopping because i didn't need to, but now i do! help!" (and i thought, "hehehe this will sooo get me on the show." i mean... pretty ok excuse right?)
i got an email back asking for a picture of myself. i gave them this:
"We are looking for DYNAMIC CONTESTANT TEAMS OF TWO for a new, MAJOR NETWORK game show pilot.
This is a trivia-based game with a chance to win big money!
Contestant teams must be FULL OF ENERGY, HIGHLY COMPETITIVE and have GREAT INTERACTION TOGETHER."

(and i thought, "hehehe this will sooo get me on the show." i mean... pretty ok excuse right?)
i got an email back asking for a picture of myself. i gave them this:
senior year of highschool
... and they never contacted me again.
last week, as i was job-searching on craigslist, i came across an ad that said:
"We are looking for DYNAMIC CONTESTANT TEAMS OF TWO for a new, MAJOR NETWORK game show pilot.
This is a trivia-based game with a chance to win big money!
Contestant teams must be FULL OF ENERGY, HIGHLY COMPETITIVE and have GREAT INTERACTION TOGETHER."
immediately, sonia park (one of my bffs) came into mind and i had to tell her. she was down, but i couldn't tell if she was joking or not. she wasn't.
we emailed them almost right away, not knowing what show it was, and now we have an audition scheduled for wednesday at 5 pm that can possibly last 4 hours. we found out it's called "secret fortune," a british game show that's coming to the U.S., tweaked a little here and there.
even if we only win 10 bucks, or... even if we don't get to be on the show, this will be the craziest experience ever and i will be able to cross the biggest bucket list item off my list. just the mere fact that i auditioned at a huge tv network such as CBS for a "deal or no deal meets who wants to be a millionaire" tv show is just..... nuts. HOW CRAZY IS THAT??
in the show, the host tells the team to choose 4 numbers and asks why they chose those numbers. ara and i were joking about how i should slip in a little bit of jesus in each explanation. "i chose 5 because when jesus fed 5,000 ppl, he fed them with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish." "i chose 7 because that's how many days God took to create the universe." HAHAHA i'd be that annoying holy girl that everyone hate-comments on on youtube or something.
ara: it's ok! persecution for His kingdom!
HAHAHAHA amen, sista!
sonia and i are going to drink an energy drink before we go in. we might go buckwild. wish us luck.

san diego forever
i don't want to move back home.
i'm dreading that feeling i always get when i'm home for vacation -- "___ more days til i go back to sd. let's be patient, sarah." (except i can't feel that way no mo.........) -- the feeling i get when i can't hang out with whoever i want, either because they're too far or they're on vacation somewhere cool. or i'm just too lazy.
i stayed here longer than i anticipated. i was supposed to leave early sunday morning so that i could make it to church by 9:30am but i was way too wiped out from going to 3 graduations back to back... to back... all day saturday. but i'm glad i stayed.
i'm going to miss living on my own. having my own space. walking less than a minute to get to someone's apt. sleeping over spontaneously (like i did for 2 nights in a row at a friend's apt). staying up til whenever. eating phil's (every week). eating carne/pollo asada fries whenever i crave it. et-freaking-cetera.
it honestly made me feel sad, when i was at the last UCSD graduation on sunday, that the class i was closest to (other than mine) was done with school. it's over. IT'S REALLY OVER! i mean.. it was over, but... now it's OVER!
sigh, pointless.
i'm anxious for what's written in the next chapter of my life. new characters? antagonists?! love interests?? deaths? illnesses?? blah. so dramatic
i'm hungry. time for some tacos at PB. san diego forever.
-edit-
jk, i'm here til tomorrow. holla.

the heart vs. the truth
in the end, no matter what your heart yearns for -- whether it is to pursue an action or to avoid it -- it doesn't matter.
the truth is what should drive you to do the right thing. why? simply because it is THE TRUTH.
the Word of God is eternal. the Word of God is.... God.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word WAS God."
comfortable or not, convenient or not -- do what you gotta do according to His Word, because He will be glorified and that's all that matters.
"follow your heart"
NO. your heart is weak. it's fickle. it is capable of evil. it's in the flesh. satan wants you to "do what your heart tells you to do."
fight it.
love,
you.
