HK addict and relationship counselor

Today was interesting.
As is every day.

Today, in the eyes of the public, I was a relationship counselor and an HK addict.

I've lent my ear to 3 different people as they vented away about their relationships and asked me what they should do in their situations.
I've had 3 different people in the past 3 days link/tag me in something related to Hello Kitty because it "reminded [them] of [me]."

1. I don't understand how even people who I've never really expressed my past obsession over HK in front of would be reminded of me when they see that cute white face with the huge red bow and the yellow button nose.

2. It's already been a year and a half (I was forced by Jeanne to write "two" in my status so it doesn't seem like too little) -ish since I've bought an HK item. And there's only like 8 HK items in my room as of present. Out of 60-something.

3. Every time I listen to a person complain about how hard it is to be in a relationship, I secretly thank God at that very moment that I'm not in one. I don't miss the hard part of it at all. At all.

4. I was in a situation where 2 different people, who don't know each other at all, wanted to hook me up with this one person. Crazy, right? But then I found out some stuff. And long story short, I don't know if it will work with this person. We are very opposite when it comes to relationships. I love to show some sort of affection and acts of kindness. I try to show the person I care. I try to put the person before myself. I love communication. (So yeah, you can guess the rest.)

5. I love giving relationship advice. I don't do the "Nuh-uh gurl/boy, you deserve way better than dat". I assess both sides and expose the person I'm talking to to his/her partner's point of view. I play the devil's advocate. Why? Because I want to help my friend fix the problem, not smash it with the frequently-thrown-around-phrase "Let's break up." I mean... unless it's really a problem to be smashed.

6. 2013 is going to be the year. I'm gonna crack the door open. The door to dating. I'm gonna get off my high horse. (But a girl's still gotta have some standards.)

7. My motto for life this year was: If it happens, it happens -- thank the Lord. If it doesn't, whatevs. It's not meant to be.

hello break

I officially welcome thee, 10-day Thanksgiving break. (I just woke up from a heavenly 3-hr nap.) (And usually I don't like to nap.)

Lately, I've been really frustrated by my current grade in Neuroscience. I've always hated studying anything about the brain. I mean, it's interesting (sometimes), but there are endless things to know about the brain and the spinal cord, like all the different diseases/syndromes/lesions/injuries/etc. and just every little thing the brain is responsible for in our body. Seriously, I feel like she goes in depth about every nook and cranny of the brain, and right when I think there just could not be any more to talk about, she proves me wrong. Ugh 30 minutes into all this Neuro talk, my frontal lobe packs up and goes on vacation. I just can't pay attention.
(And this lecture is 3 hours long, from 8:30am to 11:30am. On Fridays.)

Back to the topic of my grade...

I set a goal for myself at the beginning of the quarter to get at least a 3.5 GPA every quarter.
My motivation: the Dean's List certificate that the OT department hands out every quarter to students who receive at least a 3.5 GPA. (yet I still haven't gotten mine for summer quarter...... are they lying to us?)

So far, my (mental) progress report looks pretty good...... until I get to Functional Neuroscience. It's a perfect Debby Downer. It just ruins my mood whenever I think about it. I'm so convinced that I'm not going to get anything above a B- (remember, a B- here is like... an 82-84% or something) in this class, but I am slowly coming to terms with the phrase "C's get degrees." You just need to pass, Sarah. Repeat x 50348.

Well, to end this topic on a good note and start my break strong...
I'm about 99.4% sure I aced my quiz today. For the first time.

Disneyland tomorrow, SD trip after that. Can't. Wait.

another useless post: breakups

So recently, a classmate of mine got broken up with. He swore he was going to marry the girl.
He met her at his cousin's wedding.
From a distance.
She was a bridesmaid.
He thought she was beautiful.
"Who dat be?" He inquired about her to his newly wed cousin.
(I'm jk. "Who is that girl?" is more accurate.)

Then a few weeks later, after being forced by his friends to make an online dating profile, he met her again.
On that website.
He flew up to norcal to meet her.
They hit it off.
They were perfect for each other.
They were in love.
I mean.. it was apparent on facebook.
I sometimes wanted to punch the screen because it was just too much.

But now, they are over.
She claims she doesn't love him no mo'.
He is utterly devastated.
It was very unexpected.
He even went ring shopping last week.
(Why am I writing this like a poem.)

POINT IS.
Breakups suck. And I can't feel any more empathy than I already do for this guy because I experienced unexpected breakups both times I was in one (Actually, 2304985 times during the first one. What a great story to tell my future kids). I tell myself and others that I'd rather be the one being broken up with than to break up with someone, but honestly. HONESTLY. It effing sucks... Especially when it's not because of anything you did. Your whole world is destroyed by this one STEWPID person, and for the sake of not losing that little ounce of pride you have left, you have to force a smile or a laugh in public. You have to carry on with life and look so together, when you're so broken up inside. (Wow, did I really just plagiarize a Kelly Clarkson song just now...)

Luckily, that classmate of mine is a precious child and follower of Christ and I believe he is dealing with it in a pretty godly way. He is still rejoicing in the Lord. But, he's still human. He expressed how hard it was to go to class earlier today.
Well what I would like to tell him as of this moment is this:
It will get better. God's ways are higher than yours, and they are perfect. He's putting you through this for a reason -- because He loves you. This will make sense eventually. IT WILL! So center your eyes on the cross and He will give you peace. And maybe if it is in God's will, things will work out, but don't focus on that. Focus on your Creator and His sacrificial love for you. Remember that He is the only one you can fully trust -- that even the people who (claim to) love you will at some point in your life disappoint you, but He never can and He never will. Lastly, give thanks. Always.

PEACE OUT. I'm so screwed for my tests.
(No but seriously, if a guy breaks up with me ONE MO' TIME............)

crazy week ahead

This past weekend, a few of my OT friends and I did the Color Run in San Diego.

It was really awesome. I think it's such a genius way to raise money for charity. I don't think I would've ever signed up for it (sorry to say) if it didn't involve being able to dress up in ridiculous outfits and getting colored corn starch powder thrown at me.

Lessons learned though:
-NEVER do things like this (in the heat, especially) without eating a meal. I felt nauseous halfway and my stomach cramped up after like 8 seconds of jogging.
-Don't put hair up in a high bun. It was super annoying to have to tie it again every minute, especially with my pink hairbow.
-Git durrrty. It's just more fun that way. And when else would you get colored corn starch thrown at you? Um, never.

Anyway, I'm thinking about doing it again in February in Los Angeles. This time, I will walk less than 79%.

Moving on. Mondays are class-free til the end of the quarter. It's been 2 weeks now, but those two Mondays were still occupied by a group presentation meeting and preschool children observations, so tomorrow is going to be my first official day off!
Sike. I have a test/quiz Tuesday-Friday, so......

yeah.

The end.

P.S.
