wise words from my homie brian song, as of 9:07pm.
so update on my loma linda interview!
everything went really well. like i mentioned in my previous post, i only had 3 days to prepare and i was fuhreaking out. i haven't done a school interview since the 5th grade, when i was applying to immaculate heart.
a few friends helped me prepare, but they didn't really know anything about grad school interviews (only work interviews). either way, there were so many "don't say this" "say this" "no, say it this way"'s that i was about to rip my skin off. confidence was key, and i didn't have an ounce of it.
in the end, as i was driving to loma linda in my business attire (suit pants, blazer, the whole works), i semi-gave up on the whole "interview rules" and prayed to God - "God, whatever happens, i know you have a plan for me so help me trust in you and be content with whatever the circumstances!" while singing my worries away to praise songs.
i got to loma linda and everyone was super duper friendly and nice. well i don't know about the students. didn't have any interactions with them. the faculty was really nice. whew.
i knew who my interviewer was going to be because the email told me (i researched her and found out she was an associate professor in the OT program). right when she called my name in the hallway, i knew she was going to be super nice as well.
long story short, what was supposed to be a 30-minute interview became about 50 minutes long. she only asked about 3 of the questions i prepared for, which i was scared about, but by God's grace, answers flowed out of my mouth every time she asked me something. and by God's grace, she loved everything i said. "great answer." "i like that example." "i love that story!"
(for example: "tell me about a past volunteering experience and how it was rewarding." [didn't prepare for this but...] --> talked about cambodia and how we taught english and computer for a month; worshipped with the students every morning; focused more on showing God's love than teaching english; went back last february by myself because i missed it so much; reunited with a bunch of people --> :O / :D (her reaction)
we digressed about everything from last summer's renegade crafts fair to her niece's current school fundraiser to even my new business with my sister. i even got to show her a few pictures of my handmade hairpins!
while preparing for the questions, my cousin told me i should always ask a question when they ask if i have any. she suggested i ask, "what kind of students do you look for when you interview?" so i asked just that when the time came at the end of the interview.
and she said...
:)

wait what does that response mean?!
ReplyDeletemy title is the answer hahaha :) (i'll tell you details in person)
