locked out

there is a good number of times i got locked out of my house. here are a couple instances:

1. when i was in 1st grade and my sister was in 9th, we got locked out of our house in hancock park. we were outside our door walking back and forth on our little bricked out walkway for what seemed to be hours (but who knows, it could've been 10 minutes..... i mean kids don't have an accurate sense of time, you know?). i remember how my sister had to go pee so badly, she told me to cover her as she peed behind this big tree near our door and wiped with a huge leaf. i think about it randomly sometimes, about how FREAKING SICK that is. leaves are dirty.

2. when i was in the 5th grade, i had a best friend named jeanne (pronounced as "genie"). i went over to her house like errday because my parents were always working, and i just loved being at her house and doing bff-like things with her, na mean? it was my 2nd home. and a lot of the korean kids in our 5th grade class lived on her block. including one of my 5 crushes - steven lee. anyway, one day, jeanne had a piano lesson at her house and i was there. i was sooo bored, i decided to walk over to my crush's apartment, just to see if he was playing in the lobby like he did the one time i saw him on that block. lo and behold, he was -- with his adorable little brother and this one other girl in our class (she has a baby now!). after digesting all my butterflies away, i invited myself over to their lobby and ended up hanging out with them for hours (but who knows, it could've been like 30 minutes..... i mean kids don't ---...). when i snapped out of the fun and realized it was getting dark, i dasheddd out of the apt and ran to jeanne's house, only to find out that no one was home......... NO ONE WAS HOME. i had nothing. what was i to do?!?! should i go back to steven's apt? but how... and no. his mom's home. should i go to irene's?? but i don't like her and her family's scary. my (fake) cousin's 2 blocks away??? their intercom doesn't work, i remember. i walked around and around the block for what seemed to be an hour (but who knows........). eventually, i needed to pee real bad. REAL BAD. after failing to reach even irene's family through their apt intercom, i did the thinkable -- pee on the grass. in my pants. fml moment though: as i was doing so, a van pulled up right next to me to drop some kids off. conclusion: i walked back to jeanne's while crying my eyes out. jeanne, her sister, and her mom came home right when i got to her house.

TODAY (thus the title of today's post):
i came home at noon, starving. i had only eaten a small bowl of bland, corn-flavored cereal for breakfast before i had to go straight to school. my mom told me as i walked in that there wasn't anything for me to eat and that she was gonna go out soon, so i decided to get something to-go from the korean market cafeteria 2 buildings away. timing sucked because right when i got there, they were having kitchen inspection, so i couldn't order for another 15 minutes. i ordered, and then....... CRAPPPP. i didn't bring my keys. or my phone. what if mom meant she was going out -- with everyone. what if no one's home when i come back........ the food did not come out for another 20 minutes (but who knows...... i didn't have the time on me.). when i got back to the house, no. one. was. home. so i asked the guy who was sweeping our courtyard if i could use his phone. mom tells me she's on the freeway already and that she'd call my uncle. "go back to assi market for now and eat at the tables!" ughhhhh so i did. i've been ok with eating by myself in public now (since korea), but i don't know man, the "food court" at the market was as tiny as my room and i felt like all eyes were on me. even the ahjoomma at the cash register saw that i came back (she knew i waited a long while for my food) and asked if there was something wrong. "noijustwannaeathere......" [in korean mumble].
conclusion: uncle came 5 minutes after i went back to my house. mom called my phone and told me she called the market cafeteria to check if i was there or not, and that they told her they think they saw me leave....

how. embarrassing.
